WALLPAPER is a picture that is stationery, in most cases.
SCREENSAVER is a moving program that stays on your desktop when you've been away for as long as you have set it to do.
You can change these things by going to Display
Right click blank space on your Desktop
Left click Properties
Click tab for Desktop (select a stationery picture)
...Note you can browse to MyPictures and place your own photo of choice there if you like. It should be cropped first to the rectangular shape of your monitor, or it might look a little stretched.
for a ScreenSaver (that moves) select the Screensaver tab and make a choice. You can get new ones online...at places like Webshots, etc.

A wallpaper is a background on your desktop and it is always there. A screensaver only appears when your computer has been idle for the amount of time that you choose.

A wallpaper goes on your screen in back of all your program icons. A screensaver is something that comes on when you haven't been using your computer as a while.
Usually you can make both of them something entertainment like from a favorite T.V. show or band.

The wallpaper is the picture or color background of your Desktop. (Behind the icons)
Your screensaver is a moving picture that appears after no activity. The idea of the moving picture, is so that an image does not BURN INTO an old fashioned CRT type monitor. If you have an LCD flat panel monitor, you simply don't need that.

Correct. Wallpaper is static kind and screesaver is off dynamic.
Screen Saver also increases life of monitor and is also helpful to lock your computer (Password screen savers.)
