Both. I grew up watching the movies, so they hold fun Friday night horrorfest memories for me. Some of the most terrifying images have been from his books and there is no way to duplicate that on screen. In essence, there is no way for me to pick between the two.

In my opinion, books take you on a journey far beyond what any screenwriter can portray. Books challenge your mind & allow you to "create" an image..Movies can blow that self created image quicker than you can say popcorn!
In King's instance none of his movies have been verbatim. While the players may all be there, and the story line remains FAIRLY consistent, it's the written word details that kept me enthralled that just aren't there.

I do prefer his books more as they let my imagination work to figure out the story.
I like his movies as well but they do cut out alot of the book

In general, and this goes for just about everyone, the book tends to be superior. I will say that Steven King's novel and stories translate very well to film. I usually enjoy them both equally but for different reasons.

Definitely his books by far, but Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile were great movies.

His books! With the exception of IT, they cut most of his books when they make the movie. If you read his books, the movies are a letdown.

I think his books are fantastic, but they are made from deeply imaginative material and just don't translate well onto the screen.
My fave was "It", it gave me nightmares in Junior High, but the movie was only so-so.

books for sure - like most movies made from books, the book is always better as you can visualise it all in your head and use your imagination.
