Carbon Dioxide is a chemical compound that you obtain by burning Carbon in an excess of Oxygen. All ordinary matter is composed of one or more of the known 92 so-called naturally occurring elements in the universe, of which Carbon(#6) and Oxygen(#8) are two of these. Carbon dioxide is the "ash" left over when carbon burns. Your body accomplishes this enzymatically in order to provide your cells with metabolic energy, and when you do a charcoal barbeque you are doing this by the use of fire. When we burn fossil fuels, they all contain at least a little carbon, and coal is nearly pure carbon. They all produce CO2 when they burn. We should be thankful for Carbon Dioxide, since it is a major greenhouse gas, retaining heat in the earth's atmosphere. Without it, the Earth's average temperature would be about (-)14 degrees C, or about 5 degrees F, and all of the Earth's oceans would be frozen solid. As it is now, with some CO2, the Earth's average temperature is about 20 degrees C, or 68 degrees F, which is much more comfortable, I think you would agree.

i'm guessing it's a typo and you mean carbon dioxide which is CO2, aka the stuff you breathe out during respiration, what trees change into oxygen through photosynthesis, and what's in soda
