Simply - ignorance - teens don't realise the issues that underage sex brings, not just the health risks they are putting themselves into but the emotional aspects, as well as social aspects such as the issue of sex being more than just penetrative sex as is taught by our culture, and issues of responsibility – simply not realising they are not just responsible for their own health but in turn the health of partners, future partners, partners future partners, potential children and so on.

You just don't realise until you are older, as soon as the door is open to the idea of sex there is no closing it again and instead of trying to arm young teens and children we give them a truly horrific level of sex education where 'safe sex' equates to just using a condom, sex equates to penis to vaginal penetration, not showing girls how to track their cycles, not instating a sense of responsibility, so many things are seriously lacking in sex education and so many parents are either too ignorant themselves or simply don't care so both means of education for children and teens is cut-off to the idea of giving real education to prevent underage sex and sexual health later on in life.

It doesn't help when people forget children are sexual beings too, they masturbate before they even enter the world (research shows babies touch themselves in the womb, children from a very young age touch themselves for sexual pleasure), so forget that they need to give children an outlet, particularly when they mature so fast, they need some sort of outlet to express their sexuality.

There are many reasons, the final cause however is quite simple – a very sad state of affairs.

To be honest, sex is pictured everywhere one can go/see/hear. In fact, it is very likely that sexual references are made even while talking. Teenagers are very curious and want to grow up too quickly. Some act upon whims and don't realize the consequences, however, of having sex prematurely. I'm a teenager myself and I don't understand this either. I have no plans of having sex until I'm married. In fact, I've never had a boyfriend either, so realize that not all teenagers make this mistake.

To answer you question, it is because we don't hold them to a higher standard. If a teen gets pregnant and you "dare" to call them on the fact that the act of sex outside of marriage is wrong, you are labeled as judging them not simply saying there is a line and you crossed it. We also make it too easy for them to try and "play" mommy. We give them food stamps, wic and other government assistance (paid for by my taxes) set up special classes and programs for them at school and listen to their "ooh poor pity me" story and feel sorry for them.
Parents are also to blame as they no longer keep tabs on their kids and allow them to find themselves in a situation where sex is even an option. Dating at 13, 14 or 15 is just too young and wrong. Dating not in groups is not safe. Also, parents want to be "friends" to their kids not the parent. If we as parents say this is not okay and follow through, teen sex and pregnancy would come to a screeching halt.!

Think about it; They have sex shoved down their throat every where. TV, Movies, Reading, Walking down the street, older people, ads everywhere. Sex and violence is EVERYWHERE! You can not watch cartoons anymore for sex and violence. People walk around half naked. It is being programed in their minds constantly. They do not understand how dangerous it can be to have unprotected sex. Aids kills. It is a life sentence. There are dozens of disease that will mess them up for the rest of their life. Getting pregnant is a big responsibility. You have a child that depends on you for at least 18 years. Kids are being tought by grown ups that if it feels good ,do it. They watch them, were do you think they get it from. Teenagers are not the ones that make rules and bad movies. ADULTS ARE! They are the ones that make trashy, too small clothes for girls. Everything that is being pushed on our kids comes from adults. And we wonder why the kids today don't have anymore morals than they do.

I believe many do it because they are bored.I also believe that if they were educated about sex they would not do it.Some Parents are embarassed or ashamed to educate their children on sex.Teens then, are unaware of the risks and do it because they feel it makes them fit in.They are uneducated about their bodies, they are uneducated on sex in general and its risks, they are also uneducated on how to protect themselves. If parents spoke to their children and made them aware of everything involving sex and not allowing the mtv, movies, celebrites, internet ,and other media teens wouldnt have sex. Many have unsupervised access to the internet and at that age they are curious and do not realise that pornography is fake and in real life it doesnt happen like that. They do not realise they arent ready, because their hormones are going crazy at their age.Teens need to slow down and parents need to educate their children not depending on the media and schools to do it for them.

I had sex when i was 14 because i was pressured not too. I was told daily not to have a boyfriend, not to talk to any boys; stuff like that. I was called a slut by people even before i had sex. I just had a bunch of innocent boyfriends, most of them i never even kissed. Just the pressure of people assuming I'm one thing when i wasn't and being told NOT to do something repeatedly finally wore me down and my rebellion kicked in. I regret it now, and i know NOT what to do with my children.

I think that it's because we are all informed of it much younger in life. We are more open about it nowadays. Back then, like our parents time, it was odd to talk about it and you just didn't. Now you see sex everywhere. Like in advertisements, and TV shows.

Curiosity, the environment where they belong and the physical development that they are experiencing are the primary reasons why teenagers are doing it.
