The idea is to get past spam filters. It may be part of a test.

They may have it set to have your email client do an auto-reply. If it got through, they know two things: yours is a real email address, and they will soon be sending you more garbage.

Spam blockers use pattern matching and scoring to figure out what is spam is what is not spam.

When the message begins with what amounts to a random rambling, the spam blocker can get tricked into thinking that the email is ok and lets the email pass.

Spam blockers are getting better and some are learning how to detect spam. The problem is: The spammers are usually 1 step ahead.
