I have a 7 yr old daughter who wants to take belly dancing lessons.?

We live in the Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada. Any idea where she could take them?

I'm not personally familiar with the area but I'm sure there probably are plenty of classes in the area. I would suggest checking out some online bellydance directories.

If you can't find any listings for your area on either my site or shira's I would suggest joining Bhuz http://www.bhuz.com which is an online forum for bellydancers. Anything you can't find on shira's site or mine they will help you there (they also have a directory too). Being that she is only seven though you may have a hard time finding a class for her. Ask around for local teachers who teach children in their regular classes or offer a special childrens class. Although there would be some advantage to learning by video I highly recomend against it since only a trained professional will be able to teach her proper positioning and alignment. If she doesn't learn the basices of posture, position, and alignment from a professional she could really injure herself. You might want to consider paying for some private lessons in order to learn the basics at least and then consider video options after she knows something about how to move properly without hurting herself.

there are places...check out the community centres or ask at Iranian stores in North Van or Coquitlam...great excercise, but perhaps somewhat too sensual for a 7 year old..

I say do it. Too many kids are getting fat from no exercise, at least your daughter will be healthy. You might just want to see if they have an intro course that's not so 'erotic'.
