What eventually happened to Jason Williams, the case she was covering?

Mary Jane I'm not sure. Jayson Williams was convicted of several of the lesser charges while the jury hung on the more serious charges.

This is according to wikipedia, but I remember the news stories the ESPN and specifically sports center and Outside The Lines did on the story. I believe Real Sports with Bryant Gumble also ran at least one story on the events and interviewed at least one of the witnesses.
