I say, first off,summer vacation ends when summer itself ends, September 21st. Summer Reading and homework should be terminated, except for college students. I also feel that sick and vacation days should be given to students in order for them to use. This could teach them how to use their vacation time when they get a job. These sick and vacation days would be given to students from 7th to 12 grade. I also think that hiring someone to be a Human Resoures manager to deal with bullying and other problems would be great. This would lighten the principals workload an let her concentrate on other affairs. I know some of you will think I'm insane, but most inventors and thinkers ideas were scoffed at before going into effect. I would like to apply this plan to the public and parachoicl school systems in the United States. I might have a case with the Pope, who has recently stated that too much work is bad for you. Amercia is a nation of stresse out foks. Let's not spread it to our kids.

I like your ideas. I have wondered why they don't have the same graduation requirements for each state, and only offer that state's history class in 12th grade. Kids who move away have to literally start over because all their classes are so different. And you end up with 12th graders in a 9th grade history class because they don't have the credit to graduate there. Wouldn't it make more sense to have it this way?

Well, if "summer" vacation ends when summer does, it should also begin when summer does, don't 'ya think? I think the idea of summer vacation is a bit outdated anyway. I say school is all year long, with more breaks spread throughout the year to give students a chance to recharge their batteries, but not long enough to let them get bored, etc. In my district at least, students do take vacations during the school year, if that's when their parents have to. Also, students have so many days they can be absent due to illness--more days than a lot of employers allow. Finally, many schools have a "Dean of students" who helps take on some of the work so that more students can have individual help from someone in authority and the principal isn't bombarded all of the time.

Dude, you've mentioned nothing about the academic part of school, not to mention the extra curricular learning that is as important as the academic (like football, and other sports). The problem is that there are too many resources being spent on admin, and not enough on the students. Also, they should go to school year round, with three, 2 week vacations througout the school year, and only 2 or 3 holidays. That's more like the real world. Of course, the teachers would never accept giving up all of that time off that they get now;

I like your plan...however, with the no child left behind act...it's just not possible,, yes our kids are overstressed and overworked....When I learned that my school was giving summer homework to the incoming Kindergartners I was shocked they should be allowed to enjoy their childhood during the summer months...and I think your plan is great for 7th through 12th grade it would prepare them for the real world...but your plan needs some fine details added to it.

Everything is okay until..... "Amercia is a nation of stresse out foks."
Honestly, nice theory. My friend put it best, "It definitely works in theory....but the problem is, the school budget is about as slim as most celebrities."

I love it and you make so much sense! Us students work harder than actual people who have a job. I mean we work all day and then we have homework so we definitely need vacation days. And its no summer vacation if we have summer assignments!

You are one seriously whacked out Fruit Loop. Such stuff would just make things harder in the school year, and H.R. would be terrible, we already have school counselors.

It sounds alright, but most school districts can't afford to hire more people (damn republicans)
