Yes, it was effectively cancelled earlier this year, when HBO and Milch could not come to terms for a fourth season. HBO did not pursue the options on contracts with the actors freeing them for other work.

In June, it was announced - as a result of continued negotiations and interest by fans and crew - that there will be two two-hour movies to finish up Milch's story arc.

Yes Deadwood is cancelled, they may make a couple of 2 hour movies to tie up loose ends...
