well start by eating a good source of potasium such as bannanas. tomatoes. and drink 40 ozs. of water three hours before u run. don't do it all at once though. strech in your warm up your coach probally can show u the best way to strech and if u still get the cramps when running long distance a good way to ease the pain is to put your hands over your head and u still can still run try breathing in your nose and out your mouth. good luck

Be sure not to eat too much before you run, and warm up thoroughly with a stretching and loosening routine. Take first lap slow to give your legs time to warm up and get the circulation going, speed up gradually. Make sure you are hydrated and that your electrolytes are balanced by taking small sips of Gatorade or another sports drink. The trick is to be careful and not to push yourself beyond the limits of your endurance.

I learned from kinesiology class that cramps (in your legs) can be caused from not drinking enough water.. or (in your sides) could also be caused from not breathing while you run.. or just not stretching well enough/ warming up before you start to run

Make sure you are hydrated well and use a multi-vitamin that includes potassium. Eat bananas for extra potassium or go to a health food store and get a potassium suppliment

concentrate on your breathing. Make sure you use your whole lungs, not just the top part.

More importantly, focus on which foot is hitting the ground when you breath out. I will bet that it is your right foot every time. This will pinch your diaphram (sp), which causes the side stitch. Focus on your breathing pattern so that you alternate which foot is striking the ground when you breathe out.

Is the pain just under your ribs? It could be your smallest rib rubbing on your organs as you bounce... No way to fix it without surgery, though it's not a big deal.

check and see if one of your local hospitals have a sports medicine department. some of them have exercise facilities and trainers. maybe you could just ask your question to someone there.
