Hi neighbor!...Fort Lauderdale here...I survived 16 hurricanes...I think hurricanes follow me...I have lived in the gulf coast, florida, carolinas and the bahamas. Wilma sucked no power for 2 weeks. But the worst was Floyd CAT 5 a direct hit on Grand bahama. We were screwed for about 3 weeks but no one in the bahamas died in the storm of as a result of the aftermath...in the USA I hear Floyd created the largest peace time evacuation.

The ice storm of 1998 that hit Maine and parts of Canada. We were literally trapped inside for days with no electricity, no way to call for help, no way to leave and no way for anyone to come in to help. thankfully, my mom's house kept electricity and heat so the whole family and lots of friends all grabbed food and blankets and what nots and we stayed there for several weeks. Granted, it's not high devastating winds or a tornado but being stuck without anyway to replenish resources is not easy and knowing that after the storm was over we could still lose power made it scary. Even if there were shelters, there power was lost as well from freezing temps.

Hurricane in Bangladesh, was very scary as big pieces of sharp metal the siz of car doors were flying throught he air in very high speed like frisbees! and the lighting was something I'll never forget, not jsut the huge bang when struck but the increadable sound of energy loading up from the ground just seconds before.

'92 Big Bear Earthquake. I Lived in Riverside, which is about 30 miles or so from Big Bear. Living so close to the San Andreas Fault, you adapt to the quakes, and know when it's going to be the one to "ride out" or the one that gets your *** into gear and means business. Well, for me, that was this quake. Around 4am woke up and waited for it to stop, but after 1 min it was getting stronger. got out if bed and down the hall and I was getting bounced from side to side, sounds of glass& dishes breaking. Got out front door to find my neighbors outside as well, and to see the ground, street and driveways moving "wave-like" kind of rolling. it was the most intense quake I, myself ever experienced.
My friends lived by the lake in Big Bear, a big $$ beautiful home. They abandoned it with in hours & had a moving company do the rest the next day. My friends are still screwed up from that quake. Im not looking forward to the "big-one".

The explosion of Mt. Pinatubo here in the Philippines. Its seems the end of the world has come. It was 1200 noon here in Manila, but it seems 1200 o'clock midnight. Its total dark every where. And the effect of the mud flows still lingers and waiting for the next big rain and it will again destroy anything on its path.

I live in the Texas panhandle and I was in a thunderstorm where the hail was the size of softballs. It went trough the roof of my house and into the house. My car was completely totaled. It hailed for about 5 minutes non-stop.
