They were an American protectorate after the Spanish American War, & fought an insurection against the US at the very beginign, but were defeated & became proud to be part of the American family, especially during WWII. They were granted their full & complete independence in accordance with prior agreement, and despite some problems w/ corrupt govt initially, have become a strong independent country that will never be a state of the US. Guam & Peurto Rico on the other hand may become states at some point.

No, the Philippines became a U.S. colony at the end of the Spanish-American War and were granted their independence on July 4, 1946. They are very nationalistic and would never agree to be a state.

Oh BTW although Muslims dominate in the southernmost islands the predominate religion is Catholicism

Are you kidding? Congress won't even let the District of Columbia become an American state. Puerto Rico either. So the Philippines? I think not. Despite their neocolonial political relations, the Philippines will remain a sovereign nation.

There is absolutley no reason to add more deased ridden people to our numbers as a country. What woule we as a country gain by allowing them to become a part of us? More whores? I think we have enough in all of the major cities. More homeless to worry about? Again a problem we already battle in every state. We have enought trash to pick up in the continental United States we really don't need to go help another **** hole get back on thier feet. I no way is it possible for the Philipines to become an American state.

The short answer is that it is possible. The U.S. Constitution states that "New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union".

Now, to answer the question of how it would be politically percived for the congressmen who represent the existing 50 states to take action on this issue is open to a more speculitive analysis.

Nothing is impossible.
In fact there is an out and out possibility that Hawaii may be a Philippine state too.
