Because they are in denial...and have no respect for Mother Nature. Why do they build homes in flood plain areas? Why do people buy them?

There are dozens of faults running through California. There are few truly "safe" areas to live--the effects of an earthquake can be far-ranging.

For example, the earthquake that did all the damage in San Francisco was actually centered 90 miles away, in Santa Cruz (which was devastated).

Plus, the majority of major faults are along the coastline and in southern california, all major population areas.

Why not ask all people to move out of the way of possible hurricanes, or tornados, or floods?

Southern California is beautiful! San Diego, L.A. and San Francisco are all have mild climates. In addition, these areas have plenty of golden sunshine and warm weather. People don't want to give that up. Eventually, there will be a very bad quake that will make people regret living there. Unfortunately, this quake will cause widespread devastation.

Places in the California where there are major fault lines are some of the most expensive housing areas in the country. People are so far in debt, they can't afford to move!

Besides, California has its own culture. They'd have to assymilate into a whole new group. That's extremely uncomfortable. If you've ever done it, you'd know how hard it is!

There are many unknown faults, where would you feel safe? Even in areas where there may be no quakes, there are other natural dangers, some just beginning, such as the tornadoes in Israel, last year. They never had any before.

California is a beautiful state. We rarely have damaging earthquakes. The mid-west gets hit by tornadoes yearly and the east coast gets hit by hurricanes and not to mention the snow storms that last for weeks. Why move, we have it easy here, on the West Coast

because the fate of all people is already written by God. regarding any reason that's holding them there in that earthquake area. Maybe that's the place they are destined by God to die at, just take those people for example, they know themselves that if they stay in that place any longer that might die and yet they don't want to leave that place for any reason still knowing that death maybe lurking in that place. so can anybody explain that still knowing about it why don't those people go away from there? the answer is it's their destiny. It's may be their destiny to die in a place when they even know the reasons of their deaths, and being capable of moving themselves away from that place and yet ironcally, not doing anything about it.
