I am a 30 year old woman who has struggled with facial and body hair since puberty. In a desperate attempt to control it, I shaved my upper lip and under my chin while in high school. To keep up with it, I have to shave every morning and by evening you can totally tell that there is something "not right". I have PCOS and started metformin yesterday... any ideas on how quickly the metformin might slow the hair growth? Any ideas on how to remove the hair without shaving or spending thousands on lazer. My husband has never been bothered by it... but we are in the process of seperating and I'm guessing most men won't be intrigued by the shaving lines.

I have tried waxing.. I wax my brows and the majority of my face. But in order to wax my lip and under my chin, I'd have to let it all grow out and oh god! I can't even imagine doing that!
And I'm a bit overweight.. due to the PCOS and a lack of will power... and going for a wax on my belly makes me cringe. Imagine having a hair problem and then having someone shave your belly before a csection!

Metformin does not stop the hairgrowth. It slows it down. Metformin is usually given to prevent diabetes as well as other risk factors (atherosclerosis and heart disease). Metformin also helps control weight a bit.
As for the hair (hirsuitism), DO NOT SHAVE! Best thing is to wax or laser. There are many places which have time-payments for laser and in some instances, health insurance may cover some of it since you have a syndrome which causes it.
For now, bleach as the hair is growing. Once it reaches 1/4 inch, wax.
Laser works the best and although it claims to be permanent, some growth comes back, just not as bad as before,

I have a friend with the same problem. We looked at all kinds of stuff to help her out and the thing with Lazar is it will still eventually grow back. Waxing and beaching are out of the question as we both know.
Finally after hitting one dead end after another we came across this older Japanese lady who gave us the magic cure. Go to the doctor and have the hormones and thyroid checked. That was all she needed to do all along.
She takes 1 pill a day and has had no other trouble since.
Facial hair is caused because women have to much testosterone in their body make up. All you have to do is to get that level back into check and it stops growing in about 3 weeks and never comes back.
It was not all that expensive either. The blood work ran her about 100.00 with the office visit, the medication runs her about 30.00 a month I think she told me. Hers was extremely bad. She is pretty fair complected and the hair grew in black. She would shave in the AM and by 7 or 8 at night the signs would be back and shaving again would only cause bad razor burn. She had to wait until the next morning.
Well I hope that helps you some, maybe someone else can come up with a better solution for you.
Be Well.

I do the complete 'dressmaker stubble' trade but it surely honestly makes me appear extra stereotypically homosexual than if i shave it blank. I could not categorically say i love or dislike frame hair on men. it is dependent whether or not it fits them or now not. The identical with facial hair - if it appears well then i love it but when it does not then i do not. I'm most effective speakme stubble right here even though - i do not believe beards are ever a well appear!

I could not categorically say i like or dislike physique hair on guys. It is dependent whether it fits them or not. The identical with facial hair - if it appears just right then i adore it but if it would not then i do not. I am simplest speaking stubble right here although - i don't feel beards are ever a good look!

Plucking (tweezing), Shaving, Depilatory creams and Waxing are temporary hair removal methods.
Waxing usually lasts for 3 weeks, but it is painful.
Electrolysis and laser hair removal are "permanent" hair removal methods but are expensive and you have to find a trained professional, otherwise your skin could be damaged.

I do the completed 'dressmaker stubble' corporation whether it surely makes me look greater stereotypically gay than if i shave it sparkling. i could no longer categorically say i admire or dislike physique hair on adult men. it relies upon no count if it suits them or no longer. the comparable with facial hair - if curiously stable then i like it yet while it would not then i do no longer. i'm purely speaking stubble right here nonetheless - i do no longer think of beards are ever a reliable look!

Yes, I understand what you are going through, I have facial hair too, my husband doesn't seem to mind though. I wish there was something more I could do about it...
