I'm white; I wish I could help.
I think it's terribly sad that some black people think getting some education and acting like you have it means "acting white." I mean, look what they're saying is truly black then. With that kind of attitude, who needs the Ku Klux Klan?

No your not wrong. Its called wanting to do something with your life. Alot of people say they are from the hood because they think Its a cool thing to say, I guss you can call it a type of fad or a type of stereotype, and your right you should never forget where you came from but if your still in the hood 20 years from now then you'll be asking yourself what the hell did I do in my life. Maybe you can set a good example for your friends by doing what you want and what you know is right. Black people have come a long way but sadly most black people are still stereotyped. Im not saying that I know what its like being black but I do know how most white people feel and Its all wrong. If more people thought the way you do the ghetto would be a thing of the past. Persue your dreams and do what you know is right and in 20 years you'll be telling yourself I made it or you'll be teaching your childern all the fine values you have and thats always a good thing.

I'm black - and I don't understand that "love the hood" mentality either. On the one hand, you think maybe it's just pride for wherever you are in life. But, if there was that much pride there, many ghetto locations wouldn't be so trashed on a physical level.
Personally, I think that "I'm from the hood" thing is based on ignorance. If the hood is all someone has ever known, you don't have the life experience to understand how living on a much higher standard adds so much to the quality of ones' life.
It also gets on my nerves, because it also adds fuel to pre-existing stereotypes about the ghetto.

Way to go friend. Never let anybody do your thinking for you. They do it because it's a big business oppressing the little guy. But they don't know how they fit into it. Being black isn't a consideration. The poor are of every stripe. And don't sweat church. Nothing real there. The book is real. It'll never let you down. You couldn't be more right. I applaud you and encourage your bravery.

you're right. It's not wrong to want somethin better and I don't know why people would say they like living in the ghetto. I guess they think it makes them tougher which is sometimes true. It's notthing to be ashamed of if that's where you're from, but I wouldn't flaunt it either.

I feel ya'. Most people think we all live in Harlem or Compton. Be proud of your heritage. If you want to better yourself and your situation-Do it! Do not keep talking about it do it.
