The Stones certainly paid tribute to their influences by covering Willie Dixon/Muddy Waters tunes, Yardbirds & The Animals working & subsequently issuing albums with Sonny Boy Williamson, Zep covering Memphis Minnie. You have to remember that skiffle music some 5-10 years before the brit invasion certainly paid tribute to those artists, people scoring top ten hits with covers of Rock Island Line by Leadbelly and artists like Big Bill Broonzy having such a resurgance of interest that he was able to tour Great Britan during that time. So I have to disagree, they most certainly paid homage to the music that inspired them, especially blues and, people that really took notice of them (Brits) certainly took an interest in their influences.

I think the British Invasion did credit their roots in their sound. The hollowbody guitar comes out and basically pimp-slaps everyone.
