In my opinion, they are jealous of our freedom, our prosperity, and our high quality of life. They don't know the REAL USA, only what their twisted media or religious leaders feed to them.

There are many reasons why people of different cultures and different countries may hate the United States ranging from cultural to economic to political yet it is important to keep in mind that many Americans are not aware of why other countries may hate America. First, we have to look at the political interests of the countries in question. More often than not what is in the best interest of Americans is not in the best interest of other countries and when we make decisions that have a negative impact on other nations they may feel anger and even hate for America. Second, we have to look at the cultural differences between the nations in question. More often than not more liberal, or socialist or more conservative or capitalist countries find an excuse to hate America in how we structure our society. This sense of structure permeates our lifes and our society to such an extent that we may not be aware that others do not accept our structure. Third, we must remember that what is in the best interest of the United States economically often has to do with oppressing others. For us to succeed someone else must fail. If we are to be the greatest and most powerful nation on earth than every other nation cannot be the greatest or most powerful nation on earth. On every issue this holds true. If we prevail they must fail, and if we fail they prevail so they want us to fail so they can prevail. There are a few countries so tied into ours in terms of political, cultural and economical terms that the people of those countries will almost always side with us on issues. Great Britain tends to be just such a country.

Because I know the UK is not a cocoon, I shall temper my answer with some logic. Imagine, you are being told that everything you do is inferior and everything I do is superior. I don't have to ever respect your wishes whilst you are obligated to listen to everything I say and act upon it. If you don't, not only will I get all the neighbours to ostracize you, but I will eventually come round and beat you down. Does that offer any clearer reasons why some countries may dislike the US?
Shelly, To further what Shelly said about Democracy, freedom etc.. Do As I say not What I do.... couple of good examples, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan.. Great examples of democratic states??? but they are allies of the USA.

I think that you will find that there are many in this country that hate us to. Sometimes when you're big and powerful some toes will get stepped on... sometimes for good reason. Those toes don't like it even if they were in the wrong. This nation will take a stand on issues (the terrorist for example) that many, for what ever reason, will not agree with. Sometimes they are just misinformed. The press isn't very nice to us. As a Brit (look at your history) you should understand at least a little. Until WWI & WWII saped so much of your young and national energy you were the world super power. Shoot, if it weren't for you, we wouldn't be here. You were a world power that many dispised and hated. But with power comes responceability, and for themost part I beleive that you used yours wisely. Understand that we have to do likewise.

Throughout history, some countries have disliked the United States because the divide between what we preach (free society, democracy, constitutional rights, human rights etc.) and what we do can be polar opposites. For instance, we say we want countries to democratize their governments, but then it becomes patently obvious to them we're doing to benefit the U.S somehow (multinational firms move in, U.S. air bases established, trade rules rewritten to benefit U.S. rather than the host nation, etc. .) Of course, we have sent troops to a dozen countries in the last 150 years to further our political and economic expansion, not because we cared what was going on in that country. We're basically perceived as an imperial government overseas. We're also viewed as hypocrties when we lecture countries on their human rights violations (the former Soviet Union and China, in particular) and then they point out the enslavement of African Americans for 300 years, the genocide of a million Native Americans, and the racist policies toward non-whites. It's not a pretty picture.
If you really want to get an eye opener, read an English language publication for a different view of Americans. Two good ones are the newspaper, the International Herald Tribune; and the other is a British policial/economic magazine, The Economist. They're both great sources of unadulterated foreign viewpoints of the U.S.

No. The media covers some hundred or some thousand demonstrators interior the line burning an American flag and blocking off get admission to to the yankee Embassy. it truly is barely a tiny fraction of a proportion of the inhabitants. Many distant places media retailers are anti-American. There are others that are professional-US. Our media has a tendency to %. up the information of the demonstrations because of the fact they are out of the traditional. Who desires to coach calm streets? particularly in the event that they are attempting to make a case that the Bush administration isn't doing properly. Bias? the U. S. now has enormously solid to marvelous diplomatic kin with maximum of our allies and stable working relationships with the governments it is what truly counts. some noisy demonstrators might get the attention yet they do no longer effect the actual artwork and the form that we are making the international over. international kin is sluggish and quiet. Heck, it truly is boring. It makes undesirable television information. a number of the artwork is executed by using the U. S. branch of State and could proceed on even if if McCain or Obama is elected with little substitute in maximum international locations. Our standard distant places coverage does not substitute that plenty from administration to administration. There are consistently demonstrations by using noisy anti-individuals and there consistently would be. enable it go.

Just like how England systematically screwed over Wales, Scotland and then Ireland; and then embarked upon to enslave 1/3rd of the world, the US does the same in more sophisticated ways.
Post World War II, a super power does not humiliate a country by enslaving it like you stupid Brits did, they just suck all the natural resources out and throw some aid back.
You should be ashamed to even ask this considering how fantastic UK reporting and journalism is day in and day out. Are you sure you are not in Kentucky?

My history teacher would always say that it was because us American's think we are the best and have A LOT of pride.
Who knows though...
Also if you have noticed that we always take American History first in school and then if we have time we take World History. We talked a lot about that in english last year because we read an essay by Margaret Atwood. It was called the Through The One Way Mirror.

You're might get some answers saying "because they're jealous", or more likely "becaus their jelus". I think the real reason is that we are big and powerful and the perception is that we (our government) uses its power for evil more than people would like. Another reason is that a few Americans are loud and disrespectful in other countries, instead of trying to fit in.
