My 3-month-old girl has some hoarseness in her voice, which started yesterday. She also has a bit of congestion...but no fever. I called the pedi's office and they said to just monitor her symptoms for another day or so and if they get worse, to bring her in. OK you other, more experienced moms out there, could this be my baby's first cold, or could it be that the autumn-ish summer New Hampshire weather (with its pollen and other allergens) is getting to her? In short, should I be worried? Her hoarse crying is doing a real number on my Mama emotions! :(

I've read in a lot of baby books and mags that children under the age of 2 can NOT get seasonal allergies. It is a cold. But it may not be too serious. If the cold does not get worse, no new symptoms, and baby is over 3 months, he/she should be alright. But if baby looks miserable, or you think something isn't okay you bring that baby in immediately. Mom knows best!

Yes babies can get allergies. Their immune systems aren't fully matured yet. Do like the pediatrician says & take her in a couple days if she gets worse.
In the mean time, fix yourself up in the bathroom in a nice comfy chair or pillow on the floor. Take the toys or books or whatever. Close the door and run the shower on hot until the room fills with steam. Then just sit there with her for a little while so she can breathe in the steam & help clear up the congestion.'

According to my Babies 1st years book & experience a baby can't suffer from allergies. But! My son (4 1/2 months old) had some sniffles and congestion and I called the peditrician, they said to just give him PediCare for Nasal Congestion (a full droplet). I went and bought some and gave it to him for 2 days and he's not congested anymore. I would just try that and I'm sure it will help. But make sure you keep her nose cleaned out because that's how they breath. If you haven't noticed babies only breath through there noses. Well, I hope it all works out, good luck! :o)

They can, but I would take her in if it gets worse. Have you had a major change in weather the last few weeks?
