This guy is so annoying, but I have to work across a desk from him all day. He is always complaining about clients, poking fun at me and other co-workers. He is generally just an obnoxious moron. Usually what I would do in a situation like this is just walk away and have no dealings with the person. Unfortunately that isn't an option in this case. I'm just wondering if anyone out there has any advice.

Try to move to a different desk...say you want to be near a window, or farther from the (noisy) bathroom or elevator, etc. Otherwise you are stuck...perhaps listen to music and wear earphones.

i had a boss like this once. I referred him to a passage in a book called "The Art of Worldly Wisdom" by Baltisar Gracian.

He was a priest that followed Kings and Princes and looked for qualities that led to leadership. The passage went something like:

"Don't always be joking around. People will never know when
you are serious, and now everything you say is a joke"

He was cool for about a week, and then slid back to his old behaviour.

Good book tho!

I would advise you to start looking for a new job. Seriously.

I had a boss who was a lot like this. He considered it OK to throw stress balls at the back of my head, was insensitive about a domestic violence incident I needed to take time off for and threatened to sack me because of it, bawled me out when I asked for assistance because I couldn't understand something and I saw him fire other people simply because he didn't like them.

I was miserable but convinced myself the quality of my work would speak for itself and I would be safe.

In the end he fired me because he "thought I was trying to kill him". The shredder jammed and I was trying to fix it. He saw me doing this and yelled across the office for me to stop being so stupid, cam over and pushed me out of the way. So he grabbed a metal letter opener and got set to work. Afterward he realised that I had not unplugged the shredder, so obviously I had intended for him to see me at the shredder and had deliberately left it plugged in. I am serious.

Get away from this boss.

I think maybe you should find out if any of the other people who work there feels the same way. Then all sit and talk about how to approach him...If its just you maybe you should aske to go somewhere private and dicuss how you feel. If that dont work I think its called work place harrasment...akia law suit
