Well acetone has all sorts of properties, but none of those I have seen offered in the other answers here. It will not improve your fuel economy by 35 percent, although given its highly evaporative nature I would not be surprised if it did yield some change in the ignition characteristics of your fuel mix.

It also is not a universal solvent of plastics. I rebuild Magnepan speakers as a hobby and I use acetone to dissolve the old glues and sealants that secure the voice coil to the mylar membrane in those speakers. Mylar is plastic and it is impervious to the acetone.

It may well dissolve some synthetic compounds, and to that I cannot attest, but it is certainly safe on the ones I have applied it to, which include both mylar and the insulative layers on wiring.

Don't try this - the acetone or any other active solution may dissolve some components of fuel system like seals and o-rings or fuel pressure regulator diafragm causing a leak.

I won't be trying it because acetone melts plastic and rubber, lots of fuel system components are plastic and rubber.

I will say no, it isn't possible, because I don't see how it's possible to just add one chemical compound to your gasoline and increase your mileage so drastically- especially with no other changes to the engine (i.e. fuel delivery, timing, engine management [ECU changes]).
I think it's just a gimick.

You have been misled.
Even if it had magical properties, you'd need to re-jet the fuel system or re-program the controller.
