Hmm....punk preceded goth by over ten years...and rap was originally (and some still is) socially and politically meaningful. People must ask themselves: Do I simply dislike the sound of punk and rap (or, for example, country, R&B, classical)? Or am I simply a bigot?

Punk Rock is kickass.
I personally don't like rap (most of it, anyway), however I wouldn't exactly call it "a bunch of guys talking bout sex drugs and sluts". Possibly that's the MAJORITY. But then the majority of modern so-called punk (I'm a purist. To me old school punk is the only punk. Modern punk either sucks, or is alright post-punk/alternative music.) is made up of whiny guys singing about how they don't fit in, while dressed up to fit a stereotype instead of making any attempts to fight against it. The point is, majority isn't ALL. People tend to make generalizations about a genre just because the more in your face parts of it (and the pop crap that every genre deals with) happen to be a certain way (sucky, I mean).

Punk Rock, it is not even a contest ! Personally, for me, that a musician has learned to play an instrument is a prerequisite before deciding to respect said musician. In my own humble opinion, Rap depends far too much on sampling instead of actual playing of real instruments to respect it anywhere close to what I respect punk rock.

well, first off punk has been perverted and twisted into this "pop punk" which is an oxymoron, punk as im assuming your refering to is AFI Green Day and crap like that as i will be refering to punk bands such as The Decendants, Dead Kennedys, and Mindless Self Indulgence
on the same bill your probably refering to rappers such as T.I., Jay-Z and Lil Jon, while im refering to rappers like Ill Bill and the group Twiztid
the reason i assume this is because very few people actually understand subculture when they talk about it....you very well may but i dont know you so thats what ill assume
so as the bands ive listed, theyre completely different and neither is the steriotype youve listed
MSI dosent scream and arent even close to goth (nor are any of the mainstreem "punk bands"
Ill Bill dosent talk about sluts
talk of rugs reigns across almost all musical genres
and bringing goths into it, true goth bands are like Bauhaus, Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Cruxshadows, Bella Morte and more....
but to answer your question out of the two i like punk better...but id rather be listening to darkwave/gothic like The Cruxshadows

I think both of them have their own characteristics that make their people like them. I do like punk rock, but I admire rap. It's difficult to do rapping. It needs special skill. the lyrics, th beat, all of them are difficult and only people who are qualified can do that.
Punk Rock also, the beat if you don't have speed in your musical ability, you cannot do punk rock. The beat is fast and still soft (for particular person like me) and also the energy,... you can imagine that or may be you feel it,...strong! jumping, head banging, screaming,...I think that's fantastic!

In the world of music they are both junk food, but I prefer punk rock to rap when in the mood for low brow musical entertainment.

I'm not too crazy about punk rock, but I love metal, and alternative. Punk is lot better than rap, hiphop, or w/e it's called.

I prefer punk rock because of the guitars (I was raise on guitar solos and the like) I don't think punk rock is that, I think it's just a feeling of angst and a way to get it out is music.
Rap, I dunno I'm iffy on that. To me it's sorta like the music of the streets in a ghetto. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm just a stupid white person.
