They may get the human angle, an opinion or experience shared. It also helps us all feel useful. Haven't you ever had teachers or trainers who liked to be asked questions so that their need to feel useful was satisfied?

The question should be is why did you ask this question when if you had done YOUR research you would have seen it had been asked within the past couple weeks.

People spend time on here because they're lonesome or bored or don't know how to do research. They may be looking for a little human companionship, such as it is, via these small answer boxes.

Your question comes across as judgmental and a superior attitude. I hope it's just a matter of being perplexed by something you think is simple.

Because wikipedia is not human or caring, when we answear or ask questions on this site, it is to get some support from others. In all the question I have asked I have been given so much support and care from the guys that my problems have evaporated. And the question I have answeard are from my own life experiences so all in all this site is the best.

More variety, you may learn more than a dictionary or encyclopedia could ever tell you, even if not necessarily about what you wanted to know, and possibly also an untruth.

Because some people want personalized answers to a very specific question. On Wikipedia, you can't see opinions conveyed very well.

The motto of this site is "ask. answer. discover." due to efficient answers from experienced individuals which may be unavailable on the internet.

Why did you not use wikipedia for your question? I agree quite often though. They should show a little incentive for the simple factual stuff.

We all have a slightly different take on what makes the world tick.
I often try to illustrate a reply from my own experience which makes understanding concepts easier

i think in some cases that people are looking for a variation on a particular subject that benefits their specific needs...looking for the right answer to justify their actions,which are obviously suspect,otherwise the actual definition wouldnt be a problem...maybe?
