I have a wireless card, but when i ran a virus program, I somehow lost the signal from my roomates computer, I even unplugged the wireless card and it still won't recognize a signal from the next room.???

well since the "signal" is coming from the wireless router, I don't think you need your roommates IP address to access the wireless router. You need a wireless card and a wireless client. If you mean, once you're connected to the wireless network, and you want to access your roommates computer, yes then you need his IP address at a minimum.

Just to use his internet connection, no you don't need to do anything once your wireless card picks up the signal it's basically just sharing the connection.

You shouldn't, but if you roommate is using a protected network you will need to know the user name and password to connection, you always need a good signal to do anything.
