Emo is emotion-core influenced punk. Dashboard Confessional would be emo. The style is geared toward young men that are very effeminate or is a full blown butt pirate. Men that are into painting their nails black, hair that waves over in a post-surfer look. At times they may wear eyeliner and buddy holly-like glasses to seem uber-hip and alternative. There is a strong chance that emo fans like to go to your local 24 hour diner like Dennys at 2 in the morning and write poetry that consists of self loathing and how their parents neglected them. If you look at Davey Havok from AFI, you are looking at the epitome of emo. Emo kids may cross there arms and stare at the ground when passing people. Emo kids are really into piercing their lip, because its "different" and NObody in the world has one. Emo kids may cry themselves to sleep at night just cause its the emo thing to do. I don't have much to say about hardcore. I love Slayer,Pantera and Lamb Of God. Yes, I am one of those testosterone weight lifting metal heads. I prefer cold beer, bloody steak and t*ts!!! Heil!

Emo is more in touch with their emotions. Almost on a femin level, where as hard core is putting typical lyrics out there with harsh vocals.

first of all, neither of them are shitty. second of all, emo is softer and has more emotion in the lyrics and is quieter. Hardcore is more of the hard rock stuff. just not as soft and slow as emo music.
