What age level are you talking about? Adults are naturally faster typers because they've had more experience.

Kids are usually about 20-30 words a minute...xD I type 90 some words a minute.

In college level, you'll get an A if you type at 60 wpm (after subtracting for errors)

Most employers will be glad if you can manage 50 wpm no errors.

The way to build speed is to type the same material slowly aiming for accuracy repeatedly until you speed increases naturally.

If you try for speed without accuracy, you may as well forget it...not going to get the results you really want.

Popcap Games has a great practicing program called TYPERSHARK Deluxe. It incredibly close to the college level practices. If you can do those exercises with 3 or less errors, then you are good to go.
