I'm almost 35 wks preg, but an ultrasound today measured me at 38 wks and the baby at 7 lbs 7 oz. I want to get my water to break soon. How do I do this? (My feet and legs are swollen and having a hard time doing anything at all.)

As much of a pain as it is, there isn't much you can really do. Most docs say walking helps get things moving so that is your best option, but with swollen feet and legs, it won't be fun.

If you have a baby now, he would be considered premature, and might have problems. Just because a baby measures big on an ultrasound doesn't mean it's true. Case in point: I had an ultrasound on a Friday, and they told me my son was 7 1/2 pounds. The VERY NEXT DAY I ended up having an emergency c-section and he was 8 lb. 11 oz.

Don't wish for labor to begin early. You could be opening a whole can of worms that you don't need, and you could end up with a sickly baby.

Soak your feet every night in epsom salt water, prop them up at work, cut back on your sodium, and drink LOTS of water. Yes, drinking water gets rid of water. The more you drink, the more you pee. Where do you think all that pee comes from? :)

You wait for your body to break the water and do nothing else to try to push it before it is supposed to happen. Trust me, I begged for them to push me along and they scraped the membranes to provoke labor, which it did - - labor started a few hours later and many many hours into my natural childbirth the water still had not broke so they did it, I was in labor 18 hours, I had many stitches, lost blood and the baby had complications from aspirating meconium during the process and was in intensive care for over a week with it in her lungs and ear canals and such. They said if I had just waited it out and had not had so much interference it could have all been avoided and I may have had a less stressful, less painful, shorter, easier experience without all the complications to my child. She is 9 yrs old now, but I say - leave your body to do what it will do in it's own time, it knows how to do it, women have been having babies for milleniums without interference . . just deal with it, being pregnant a while longer with the swelling and immobility is way better than going home without your baby, knowing you may have ruined the experience you had hoped to had or may have hurt your child cause you felt whiney about yourself . . . and not being able to hold or nurse her for days just because you felt miserable and wanted it to be done with. Think about it, being a parent starts now, you have to put the babies needs before your own from here on out, the baby will come and break your water when it is good and ready. You are stronger than you think, you can deal with this, you can wait.

You are 35 weeks and your baby needs to be in there till at least 37 weeks

You cannot force your water to break. Just because you are measured at 38 weeks does not mean the baby is ready.

Hi, congratulations to you. I have had 6 pregnancies, 4 were full term and I have 4 beautiful boys 1-10 yrs old. I suggest "making love" hope I can say that here. That is the best way to get your body in gear for those contractions to start. My water only broke for my last pregnancy, they were all different. Your Dr. may have to break yours or it may give you that sign. Move as much as you can, I know how uncomfortable you are right now, but you are soooo close, its all worth it. GOOD LUCK!!

Let nature take its course. You may be miserable but mother nature will take care of everything. You don't want the baby to come before time.It is impossible to make your water break. Only a doctor can do this. Don't rush things that baby will come when it's supposed to. Relax and enjoy.

you can't...not unless you want to harm your baby. and if you were measured at 38 weeks then they will change your due date and now you only have two more weeks to go. stay off your feet as much as possible and just wait it out. if someone here tells you how to break your water don;t listen to them. most women's water doesn't break until after they are already in labor....with me....both times the doctor had to do it.

You don't want to break your water before time, that would give you a dry birth. If you want to encourage the baby to start to deliver, lay flat on your back on the floor for an hour or so. It worked with me and I was told that by someone that had 12 kids.

Ask your Doctor to do it, or, have some heavy duty sex. It'll break when it's ready. My niece was told she was going to have a 10lb baby, and it turned out being 7lbs, 2ozs. So you can't really be sure of Ultrasound ~

Talk to your doctor and let him/her know how you are feeling, if he thinks the baby is ready he can do a procedure in the office called "stripping the membranes", It is painful but works. my doc did it to me and I went into labor and my water broke later that night!!! Good luck!
