You can only get pregnant when you are fertile – you are only fertile 30% of your total menstrual cycle – this is the day of ovulation (normally between day 12-16 of your cycle*) and the days prior to ovulation when there is cervical mucus present. Cervical mucus helps the sperm reach the egg in order to fertilise but also helps to keep sperm alive within the naturally acidic vaginal environment for up to 5 days – arguments as to how long this is exactly, it is also determinate on sperm quality and cervical mucus quality, but Fertility Awareness Method, Natural Family Planning and similar methods all work on this basis and are highly effective.

* The first day of true bleeding during menstruation is counted as day one of your menstrual cycle. Often it is said a woman's cycle is on average 28.5 days, ovulation on day 14 on average.

Of course the normal warning ensues – do not have unprotected sex, unless you use birth control methods such as FAM or NFP there is no way of knowing for sure when you are fertile or not and as such it does mean you stand a chance of falling pregnant.

Between your 12th and 16th day of your cycle. You start to count the first day of your period, that's day 1. Then 11 days later you're body may realeas an egg anytime between the 12th and 16th day. But be careful because sperm can live inside you for up to 3 days. So if you had sex unprotected on the 10th day, and your body released an egg on day 12, well you get the picture. Best that if your not trying to have a child, use protection:)

depends on the length of your cycle. the normal average for a 28 day cycle is day 14.

Although you can ovulate at any time during your cycle, even on your period. Iam five months pregnant with a period baby. Although avoiding the times i knew i was ovulating worked for me and my husband for about two years, we did eventually get pregnant. :)

well that depends....usually days 11, 12 ,13 and 14. Sperm needs to be present before/when you ovulate. Best to have sex EVERY OTHER DAY from day 9 on. REMEMBER your cycle STARTS on the 1st day of bleeding....not the last!
