It doesn't cost much to copyright a novel.

As for publishing, are you publishing it yourself? That is vanity publishing. You should REALLY have a good reason for doing this. I would not recommend it unless you are positive it will sell and you have the means to market it.

As for finding someone to publish you, get Writers Digest. Learn who is accepting new authors. Learn how you have to submit. Most publishers don't even want to see your whole novel, many only want a few chapters and an outline.

Good luck!

Self-publishing could be a good option. Do a search online for "self publishing" & sites will pop up.

Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* The Self-Publishing Manual: How to Write, Print, and Sell Your Own Book, 14th Edition by Dan Poynter
* Complete Guide to Self Publishing: Everything You Need to Know to Write, Publish, Promote, and Sell Your Own Book (Self-Publishing 4th Edition) by Tom Ross
* Smart Self-Publishing: An Author's Guide to Producing a Marketable Book, 3rd ed. by Linda G. Salisbury, Jim Salisbury
* Self-Publishing For Dummies by Jason R. Rich

There are lots of free informational resources out there as well. Check the source box for links to articles.

To copyright your work, you do this at the US Copyright Office. Go to the last link in the source box for Literary Works. The application is fairly simple & the cost is $45 per application.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

There are two types of publishing:

1. Self publishing. That's when you pay to have your book published. There are many self-publishing companys, like Xlibris.

2. Regular publishing. That's when you send in your manuscript to regular publishing houses and see if they will agree to publish your book. you don't pay a single penny. try publishamerica

so choose what you want. good luck!
