ive been playing electric guitar now for a year and a bit and i hav a squier strat and the same amp i got with a starter pack i ahve bought foot pedals and all that to spice it up but i know i need to step up in the gear but what should i buy a new guitar or a new amp

First I think you should see yourself. If your quality increases I suggest you buying some equipment effects for guitar. Because the variety and the quality of sound guitar are produced by a good effect machine. but we have to also see from your guitar. Since you don't mention your kind of guitar it is difficult to know your guitar quality. Buy the high quality one such as Fender or Ibanez. But you need to know first that you are sure about yourself.
About amplifier. for amp, there is no big different. I mean whether it is new or old, just make sure that your amp works well.

yea get a bigger amp the squier strat is not bad and you will appreciate your other kit a lot more with a better amp

Buy a new amp, because your guitar will always sound the same but a new and larger amp can make it sound better.

squier strat is a good guitar...i'd go for the amp if i were you, a starter amp won't do you justice!

Change your strings at least once a month. Then get a bigger amp.
