Go out and buy the latest issue of The Advocate, they have a guide to gay friendly college campuses.
If you're serious about the Marine Biology, look at schools in Florida or Hawaii. I've heard good things. If you're just interested in bio in general, I'll plug the University of Wisconsin, my alma matter. It was a great place to be young and out and queer. And I found myself there.
Currently I live in Bloomington IN which is extremely gay friendly. And the rent is cheap and it is easy to get a job.
Wherever you go, good luck!!

First of all, how are you going to pay for this schooling?
secondly, get away from Tennessee..as far as possible. Washington DC is very gay friendly, and has lots of schools.
Forget about pleasing your mother, it is not going to happen. Please yourself and do well with your life. You will need a job. Get one. Stop yelling to the world you are gay..you are making an issue of this, and it is NOT an issue unless you are planning on going to bed with someone. Whenever someone starts telling everyone they are gay, it is almost as if they have problems with it. It is no more than a matter of fact...treat it as such.
Good luck with your life. I doubt that anyone here will be able to give you that much help...you will have to do this yourself.

aww. well first off, more than likely you will be accepted for being a lesbian.. especially at college. :) now you do live in tennesse... that poses a problem.
anyways i live in austin, texas, and most ppl think of texas as anti gay and conservative.. which is true, except for austin!! austin is the second most liberal city in the nation, and has i believe over 140,000 gays and lesbians. we are known as the gay capitol of the south!!
the quality of life is great, you can get a job and the city passed a law that made buisinesses offer partner benifets [so you and your gf can get benifits]. the quality of life is the third best in the nation. the economy is also the third best lol!!
you can go to the university of texas at austin.. very great university. voted number one party school in the US!!!! austin is great for shopping, pets, and it's just a really diverse and nice city.
anyways but besides austin, try something in like the boston areas, or NYC, philly, or somewhere in the northeast. also, of course you can't forget san fransisco!! seattle is pretty friendly too. :) dallas is pretty conservative but has a huge LGBT population that is thriving and growing. louisville kentucky is very very conservative but is pretty gay friendly i believe.
as for what you should do for a living.. follow what you think is right!! do something you enjoy. whether it be a store clerk or a police officer, or a lawyer, follow your dreams.
i wish you the best of luck!!

Find Lesbian publications or the Advocate magazine to look for gay-friendly colleges in gay-friendly areas.
California is a good place, obviously, but so is Mass and Oregon.
Try online gay / lesbian resources, too.
Good luck and be yourself!!!!!!

You can do and be anything that you want to be. Your mother sounds like she has written you off...and you sound like you don't care anyway...good for you....You can be out to whoever you like...it's not you who has a problem with homosexuality...it's them....if your sister can't take the "teasing"(REALLY!!!) then it's time she grew up...I went to university and took a biology major and worked with plants for a while...because that is what I wanted to do...You too can live your dream, honey...as the ad says---Just do it!

Oberlin, in Ohio, is super liberal and diverse. It's kind of expensive, but I would at least check into it and see what kind of financial aid might be available. Good luck! And don't let your family get you down...they're the ones who are in the wrong, not you.

Oh honey, I can't help with most of those questions. But I feel so badly for you that you and your mom can't be closer, and that she wants to send you far far away. Don't dismay...we love you.
