If the water is smooth then the water tension can be walked on by something like small insects..........therefore falling from a high enough altitude would be like hitting a brick wall.
Also....the speed at which a falling object travels would be ennough.
A falling object accelerates at 10m/s squared until it reaches terminal velocity
After 1s u have fallen 5 m
after 2s u have fallen 15

if u know measurements then u will know that 10 m is pretty long......now imagine going at speeds enough to cover that distance in 1 second......then imagine u are still accelerating faster and faster.

It could very well depend on the height from which they fell. Above a certain height the impact with the water is closely akin to hitting concrete.

Just as with the Golden Gate Bridge in California. Almost no one has survived a fall from the road deck to the water. Some time ago one did survive. He was pulled from the water nearly nude. The impact with the water had shredded his clothing.

most people who fall into water, like off bridges, do so not vertically but horizontally. if you've ever done a belly flop you know it's painful. and that was from, what, 4 or 5 five? imagine the same thing from a hundred feet up. simply bcuz the waster looks soft, ou hitting that plane of water is essentially like hitting a brick wall depending on how fast you're going and from what height you fell at. you COULD, very possible however improbable, save your self by going in feet first and as straight up and up down as possible. the less area there is upon hitting the water the better chance you'll have for surviving. but depending on the height it probably wouldn't make a difference anyways.

Depending on how high the bridge is, chances are that you're moving pretty fast. And while yes, water has some give to it, and you can obviously jump in and not hurt yourself. But a lot of that depends on the speed at which you hit the water, if you're going slow, the water will "give" and allow you to go in. If you're going fast enough, you will hit the water, and because of your speed, the water won't be able to give fast enough, and it would be a lot like diving onto a cement block.

Force = Mass X Acceleration. If you enter the water a high speed, the water must accelerate to move out of the way to make room for you to enter the water. Falling from great height, the resultant force is enough to crush your bones and internal organs.

Strong water current that even a good swimmer will be drowned and the force of impact when touching the water after a fall from height.

It depends on how they fall. If they land wrong, they could break their neck, or the force of the hit could stop their heart(like if someone punches you in the chest or if you get hit with a ball in the chest). The other possibility is they go so far deep under they can't reach the top in time for more air. They could be knocked unconscious and drown. There are all kinds of reasons.

Usually people that fall or jump off of bridges from very high up break their necks or other bones from the impact of their bodies hitting the water.

Because if you landed on your head in the water, you would be landing with a huge force and that would be against your head. Or if you fell on your back in the water from a high place, it is the force of hitting the water that would kill you.

You could break your neck on impact.
The impact can be like hitting concrete, depending how high & how you hit the surface of the water.
You could drown.
You could hit your head on something, become unconscious, drown.
You could get stuck in something submerged, drown.
The temperature could put you into shock & stop your heart.
I really don't want to think about this any more. Don't jump.
