An ultrasound is performed to ensure you have a healthy baby. They get a close look at the baby's heart, brain, bones (including spine), kidneys, as well as a host of other organs. They also measure the baby to make sure he is growing normally.

Be thankful that you have insurance (even though the rest of us are paying for it) and continue to go to your regular ob/gyn visits. The sex of your baby is NOT important. If the federal government thought that you NEEDED an ultrasound, they'd add it to the Medicaid package.

Hey...I am not in dallas but in Houston. Call the ultrasound schools...find schools that specify in ultrasound studies. In my school we do them for free every friday...and we would be able to tell the sex of the baby. I am not sure if you would want to drive from there, but it is an option, but check the ultrasound schools in dallas.

Look in the phone book, the only place that will do an ultrasound will be your OB GYN doctor. Those places that do ultrasounds only want CASH upfront.

They aren't going to give you something for free unless you REALLY need it--like a doctor to deliver the baby. Finding out the sex of your baby isn't needed and a waste of their time to do at no cost to you.
