fungi love to be dug up picked and kicked hence the pungent aroma you smell walking in the woods. its only the fungis mechanism for reproduction wafting your way, but because its spores are so small an tantilizing to your nostrils it makes you want to go foraging. forage you disturb the fungi distribute its spores and the cycle continues. heres where it gets freaky, fungi were on earth long before reptiles so how come it brings out the hunter gatherer when some smell like rotten meat? the humble mushroom is a genetic superior to humans

Some fungi have "aromas" that come off them, yes, but if you are talking about "gases" like other cells give off, then YES to that too. Fungi are eukaryotic and thus they have most of the same organelles as other eukaryots. Thus they do cell respiration where glucose is brokend down to produce CO2 and H2O which are given off. There is famous fungus that gives off the odor of decaying flesh!
