have a talk with them and tell them that for the good of the squad that you all need to work together - that you are the captain, but you will treat them all with the same respect they give you.

You make sure that you are not bossy/b!tchy otherwise they won't take you seriously.

if you do work together and enlist their help it will hopefully change attitudes.

Alright so all those people that left those comments do not have any idea what cheerleading is like! And as a captain, you cannot be bossy and rude. And also don't just scream at your team to do things. Just have a talk with the whole team and just be like alright we are the captains and we really want this team to be awesome but for that to happen we need to work as a team, cooperate, and respect eachother. And when your having a talk with them, ask them what they expect from you as a captain and tell them what you expect from them as a team.

Derek Jeter holds the valid call as team captain, and this is a nicely deserved call for him. He leads the team by technique of party contained in the way he performs and how he behaves: supply one hundred ten% each day and do not reason difficulty. yet Jorge Posada is the vocal chief of the clubhouse. he's not afraid to call someone out at the same time as he thinks they are not taking section in demanding adequate, and Jorge is yet another participant who also is going out and performs demanding commonplace. Jorge speaks his innovations, yet he does it so he can make the team more effective constructive as an entire. some people (more often than not Yankees followers)like this about him, and some resent him for this. Andy Pettitte is a team chief because he can stay calm and picked up at the same time as each and everything may be in a downward spiral. If the Yankees are on a dropping streak and he's starting up the subsequent sport, the team can assume him to make issues properly. A team needs a calming impact like that. Andy also performs demanding, and he performs with intensity. Mariano Rivera is likewise a calming impact on the Yankees, they could continuously assume him to close the game for us. Mo is likewise kinda like the smart elder on the team who teaches youthful gamers (quite pitchers) about the innovations of the Majors. So even notwithstanding Derek Jeter is the 'valid' Yankees captain, i imagine that that's extremely the midsection 4 who leads the Yankees. each and each and every of them have their own different innovations of best the clubhouse, yet all of it works out mutually. :)

Former Cheerleader here!
i can't believe the other idiots that answered your question.
i know some cheerleaders are all about cheesy cheers and skirts, but most are serious athletes.
Its an exhausting mix of gym, dance, and strengh (stuntwork). people who dont respect it need to attend a cheer practice.
okay, to your question:
can you kick the girls off the team? then do it.
is it a clash of interests? some wanting to play and others wanted to seriously compete? split your girls into JV and varsity. the JV kids can play and the varsity ones can compete.
and remember, sometimes being a good leader means not being everyone's friend and making everyone happy.
good luck!

to all those previous smart asses, they don't know that cheerleading isn't just about being cute or wearing skirts...it gets real hard(depending on what all the team can do) but first you needto take yourself seriously and then come in to practice and set some consequences for certain things they do ex.- push-ups, lots of toe touches, herkies etc. , running laps, and since they are a "TEAM" if they give you a hard time they all get it. See how they like that.

You're on a cheerleading squad. If you'd like to be taken seriously you should consider NOT jumping around in a micro mini yelling "Gimmie an S!".

Remember you must give respect to earn it...and don't try to be everyone's friend....I don't really know what level of cheerleading you are on....but if it is competitive... I am sure coming in last a competion will grab their attention...kick a couple of people off and find dedicated members

The problem with not being taken seriously isn't you. It's cheerleading.

Come straight out and tell them that they either take cheerleading serious or they can quit. Let them know that you meen business. Don't be mean because you don't want them to be mad at you but be serious and straight forward.

and you expected....what exactly?

Cheerleading, where a bunch of girls all struggling to be very popular with everyone come together. People don't cheer for the sport of it, they cheer as a popularity contest.
