hair extensions are so ugly and look fake. some men do it to but mostly woman do it. i much like there hair when its staigtened as it look nice and long??? and since when did affros come out of style????

Ugly and beautiful is in the eye of the beholder my sister. The afro was a "political statement" hairstyle worn in the 70s that may or may not come back in style for women. It has in recent years for african american men. I can say that many changes people of color make are done in order to earn a living in work environments that tend to pre-judge based on appearances. As a bi-racial person with straight hair I have had an "easier" time with employment because I "blended" better into my surroundings than a dark sister. There may have been some "wannabewhite" motivations in yesteryear, but its not a self-hate thing for women who do relax their hair today- its more socio-economic than anything. Its also style driven. When Halle and Demi were wearing pixie do's that was the rage. As for extensions, wigs or otherwise, spicing it up with a different look every now and then is not something specific to race.

You mean every single black woman in the world relaxes her hair? Geez, I hope they don't run out of relaxer kits at the beauty supply store!
I'm black, and I don't relax my hair. I never have. Just a reminder though, when the average black woman is deciding her hairstyle preferance, what you think doesn't really figure into the equation.
Last I looked, afros went out of style over 30 years ago.

It is a leftover from slavery and I hate it. When white slave owners saw the hair of the female slaves they were appalled by it and made the women put lye in their hair to relax it. Some black people still have this slave mentality and they believe that what looks closest to white is the most beautiful and hang on to this silliness. It's disgusting. I wear my hair natural.

2 Reasons
1) They wear their hair however they like because they like the style. Just like you like certain things, so do they. I have worn my hair in an afro, natural, pressed, braided, weaved, or however else I think it looks good on me.
2) They realize that many color struck men only want girls who have long hair. So they try to change themselves into what society has deemed beautiful....long hair.

Braids are Royal for the black women
Straight hair is anglo. Women relax their hair to look like you

because our hair is not naturally straight some of ours is but most is not it takes relaxers to get our hair looking straight no black one wants her hair to be nappy as hell and no not all hair extentions look fake some look very real take beyonce hair for example its fake we get hair extentions because its easier to work with than real hair and alot of people look better with longer hair

black women (no offense to anyone) do this to there hair because they have REALLY REALLY NASTY hair, they can't help it they were born with it. the best way to make it look some what decent is to put extensions, and they relax their hair, in order, for their hair to be more manageable because there natural hair is like rope they have to comb with a HOT brush, so they have to work with what they have
