As fruit ripens, it produces a chemical called ethylene. The greater the concentration of ethylene, the faster the fruit ripens so if you have a bunch of bananas, they will go brown faster than an individual banana. Ever heard "one bad apple will spoil the bunch"? Same concept, just replace "apple" with "banana".

I believe a brown banana is a special type of banana that some cultures use to make certain food dishes. The filipino culture makes a dish called "lumpia" with them.

a brown banana can be obtained if you buy a yellow banana and let it sit in a paper bag for a few days, up to a week. if you catch it just as it starts to ferment...smell it and it gives off an intoxicating, pungent banana-alcoholic smell, it is perfect for banana bread!!! yummy!!!!

If you leave a yellow one out for a extended period of time it will become the " BROWN BANNANA". Then you can find it wherever you left it.
