I breed show animals. A past adopter of three animals signed a written agreement that had many stipulations, including that no animal(s) would be abandoned, and if she could/would not care for them, to contact us to reclaim them. She contacted me to tell me that she has released one of them into the wild cause he was unfriendly. I have informed her that I will be reclaiming the other two animals this weekend.

She is now threatening me with her "multi-million dollar lawyer father", and telling me she will have me arrested if I show up at her door this weekend.

Does she have any legal right to do this? If I go down to reclaim them, can I be arrested? Do I need to take her to court in order to obtain my animals? It seems very clear to me that she abandoned an animal, and said she would not.

Can anyone help with this?

If you have a copy of the contract, it should be legally binding. I would contact your lawyer if you have one or contact the law enforcement agency in their area to see whether they will enforce the return of the dogs.

What kind of person "releases" a dog into the wild?

I think if it was in your contract, and she signed it, you CAN reclaim the animals if you show up at her door with either a Sheriff or Animal Control Officer.
She is apparently in violation of the contract, especially if it said she should return the animal to you if she didn't want it.

If none of these ideas appeals to you, I would definitely take her to court and let a Judge decide. People can threaten anything they want. They're usualy bluffing when they do.

She's bluffing, if you have a signed contract. Hire a lawyer and have the contract terms enforced. Don't let her get away with this. Animal abandonment is punishable by fines.

You can enforce the terms of your contract through the courts. The police won't 'enforce' your contract without a court finding.

The best thing to do is probably to report her crime to the police and animal welfare people in your local government. The releasing is probably a crime. It will also put her on notice.

No..shes just being a little outrageous. She broke your contract. What you should do is look over that contract and see what you agreed on as the consequences of her breaking that contract.

I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure that you can't just go to her house and take them. You will have to go through the legal system.
