They should stop being parasites and get out and get a job. Trouble is who would employ them and doing what? Charley would get snapped up as a village idiot with no problem and his wife could play any old hag you could ever think of, Anne could substitute for Mr Ed, Phil the Greek could go home and the Queen, well she could draw an old age pension and try to get by on what most of her 'subjects' have to. Nice dream but it won't happen anytime yet.

Most of the Royals in England DO have jobs. And they earn their livings.
Their jobs aren't quite like everyone else's (have you seen a job description for Queen?) but they are certainly demanding. Do you think the country would be better served if Elizabeth and Philip ran a B&B out in the country somewhere? Get real! They couldn't begin to match the contribution made by tourist dollars.
And if you think it's easy being Queen, just add up all her official engagements. Multiply that by the vacuous officials she has to greet, be courteous to, and make conversation with. Add up the number of hands she shakes in the course of a year.
Nope. She can have it!

Why would the world want that to happen?
The royal family is royal. The rest of the world love the royal family, and wish we had such a wondrous thing as Buckingham palace. The thing that England has that other countries do not have is the only thing that has survived the uprising of the new countries such as the United State. We are a baby country in comparison to the age of England . We got our start from English ancestors.
The Royal family is just that, they are descendants from the first King of England. and that is a something none of us can claim as ours.
I think that they should be left to be what and who they are. they are what England is founded upon.

They don't need to , they are vastly wealthy and getting richer every year as they don't pay the same taxes as ordinary people and many of their expenses are paid for by the tax payer.
Some people say that if there was no royal family , tourists wouldn't come to England but that is denigrating the nation as France and the USA do not have royal families but they get more tourists than England.

The royalty in England perform a valuable role for the country in attracting tourism and therefore bringing inward investment to the country that otherwise wouldn't materialise.
The Prince of Wales, for instance, runs a very successful estate (the Duchy Estate), and features food produce that are prepared to the highest of standards, without GM intervention. I think you'll find that if you look into it, he generates more than he costs.

They do. The Queen attends hundreds of functions a year. Most royals must serve in the military. The queen repaired and drove huge trucks while in the service. Most of all the Royal Family is property of the state and pay taxes like everyone else.

I would like to see you run a house/estate the size of the queens. I would like to see you deal with the paparazzi. How about having little freedom to do marry love where you please. How about being hounded because of your birthright. I would never want to be royalty. I do not envy them. Perhaps their wealth but certainly not the propriety that comes with it. I am almost positive everyone of them has thought at some point in time........"why couldn't i be born common" or whatever they call us.

all i can say is YOU ARE CRAZY! think of it this way, if you ran a country that was constantly being bombed by terrorists would you be able to go outside just to have someone try to kill you and then try to explain why you did not step up the security checkpoints?

My city changed into doing ok until eventually all our jobs moved to Mexico (not China). The rust belt is Fvcked with a capital F. In some many years you'll have NYC, Boston and something else of the NorthEast US will be one massive ghost city.
