it won't even restart for that matter! well, to get it to shut down, you have to do it the usual way, but then once it gets past the "saving your settings" screen to the "windows is shutting down" screen, you have to turn it off manually...because of this, i can't restart my computer...how can i fix this?

Does that happen before?, Do you have more details?

Can be the power, check the Control Panel... Also check the setup... and if the problem is not there:

Well try this... if you have Windows Xp clic on Start, select Run and type: shutdown -s -t 1 -f

That will make your computer turn off in 1 second and will force your applications to close out.

But if you have Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows 98 or Windows 95 just make a shortcut with this address:

C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE user.exe,exitwindows

If those things don't work let me know...

I had this same problem on a couple of e-machines. It was a switch issue. Rather than replacing the hardware like I should have (never buy an e-machine), I just tricked it.
To boot your computer, try unplugging it. Then, while pushing in the "on" button, plug it back in. That will bypass the switch and ususally allow you to restart.

you might have file in windows thats corrupe put you boot
disk in for windows and reinstall it . xp is like that try booting
up in safe mode if your running xp if not you will have to put your boot disk in to repair windows hope this helps
