just curious what people think of texans, if you have a particular opinion of them, or don't really know anything about them except what you've seen in movies or whatever, etc etc

fyi: i like texas, i used to live there, but i wasn't born there. i don't dislike texans, yes some have big egos, but there's ppl like that everywhere. yeah, i know texans are "just people" like everyone else in america, but you know how there is stereotypes and stuff like ppl thinking they all live on farms, ride horses as mode of transportation, etc etc. just like there's stereotypes about ppl in other various states & regions of the nation like ny or l.a. for example. so i was just curious what other people from around the nation thought of texans.

Texans are people like anyone else. They are neither dumber nor smarter than anyone else. There are really good ones & really bad ones & all those levels inbetween. They are some of the most laid back. (Some being the operative word). They enjoy being really silly (spam fests, Eyore's Birthday party, etc.)but have a great time doing it. Great food(Tex-mex, bar-b-q,fried chicken etc.)comfortable clothes(jeans & boots) good singers(Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett et al) & the most decorated soldier of WWII(Audie Murphy). Some bad things such as fire ants & lots of illegal aliens but all in all they are great people of many races and I am very PROUD to be a Texan.

I know several people from Texas and they're all different--plus, Texas is a huge state and different regions are a lot different. The meatheads on that Friday Night Lights promo for the TV show look pretty lame, but whatever--I didn't see the movie and I'm not gonna watch the show. I saw a TV food show thing about west Texas by the Mexican border and it looked fun. One of my friends is living on an Army base in Texas and she hates it a whole lot because it's really hot and dry and she doesn't like the military jerks her boyfriend works with, but I guess she hates the situation more than Texas.
I think you should get to know the person more than the state he or she is from or lives in. I mean, W is no cowboy--he's a big faker who doesn't know jack sh!t about ranching and farming and big ol' Texas life--he's a spoiled brat who has no business posing as a rough-n-tumble ranch guy. I don't think many people in Texas have the same background as him, so he's not a reliable representation of what most people are like there. I hope.

I use to live in Texas and at one time was married to a Texan. Actually, my mom was a Texan too. I lived in three Texas cities, and each one was very different from the other. For the most part they are nice people. They can be extremely opinionated and stubborn, but most of them work hard and play hard just like the rest of us. Texas as a state is beautiful in some places and just down rite ugly in other. Traveling through the state can be a painful experience. One must have patience and the love of flat land. Not all of Texas is like that, but the vast majority is.

Well, I'm not a true Texan. I was born in Louisiana, and moved to Texas when I was 7. Generally Texans are just like anyone else (I've traveled a lot of places in the US). Now, there are the extreme rednecks and cowboys, but they're not too dominant here (at least not in the metropolitan areas). And also, contrary to popular belief, we're not all Republicans.

I'm in PA. I've never been to Texas. I think of Texans just like the rest of us in this country as Americans, just in a hotter climate than myself.

Well, as a whole, Texas seems full of itself, but I might just be saying that to tease my mom. What, with Texaco, Texas pledge every morning after The American Pledge... =D
No, don't worry. I like Texas. I live here. I have friends here. It's my second favorite state.

I love thier views on the Death penalty. I love their accents. They make great salsa and Tex Mex food. The only thing I don't like from Texas is Bush (I agree with the Dixie Chicks).

I moved to Austin, Texas from Chicago and everyone up north seems to think I own a horse, a gun, and a pick-up truck now and that there are tumbleweeds going past my house. Personally, I think many of them are conservative ******* but there are many that are nice too.
