There was an article in the paper a few weeks ago about 30-40 year old goths. They still get dressed up in makeup (men and women) and black clothes and go clubbing.

Is seeing a grown man in eyeshadow and black lipstick sad or do you think they are awesome for doing what they enjoy and expressing themselves???

It is depressing that a grown man still feels like he has to fit into a "group" to be cool. I outgrew that in jr. high. But if it makes him happy.....

OK So my husband and I are both 31. We have no children. During the day at our jobs we dress normal but when we go out we dress in what makes us comfortable and that is goth. I don't care for name brand clothes, I enjoy making my own clothes and jewelry. I don't see what the problem is. Being pale is no different then going to the tanning bed and being brown as leather and my clothes are no different then all the "kiddies" wearing Abercrombie and B*tch and Hollister. I have have seen goth girls wear less makeup then some people. Age has nothing to do with it! Look at the majority of the bands they are mostly in their 30's.

Considering people of that age really pushed that look and more importantly the music of that genre Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sisters Of Mercy etc I say leave them alone, maybe the could give history lessons to the kids at the mall that think goth started with Evanesence or M.C.R.
Are they hurting anyone? NO! Let them be happy with who they are.

Express yourself and others be d@mned for what they think, personally I think people in western gear look like idiots because
1.They probably never grew up on a farm or a ranch, sorry if you're not part of that culture don't try to act/dress like it.
2. Guys in pointy toed high heel shoes (boots) and funny hats look a bit fem in my opinion. Take it to brokeback mt. Jim Bob

I know several goths over 30, and they're all cool people. They don't dress over the top at their jobs or anything, only when they're out with friends. They know who they are, and aren't willing to change for anyone. I think that's the definition of cool.

While at the mall one lovely spring day, I noticed an older lady in black with chains hanging from her pants, then went on to notice her dark red lipstick and paled face. Soon after my observations, she smiled at me and said hello. Suddenly it hit me. This woman was my cheerleading coach last year. Her three kids were with her and they were all dressed the same.
I don't think that she is being a good role model for her kids. While you should have the right to express yourself, exposing your kids to this culture will not allow them to function as they may otherwise choose to in high school and possibly college settings. Let's face it... a lot of Goths aren't making the best decisions in life. When I have a child I want them to have friends that will make good choices so that the kids can have a support system. If children only know being Goth, they aren't going to meet a lot of friends with the same ideals they have (if, of course, they choose to make good life decisons)

I think that goth dressing anyones are immature retards to begin with. Idiots that have made themselves less marketable in the business world by their attire as well as their personal choice of look. When you chose to be out of mainstream, mainstream leaves you behind. Then what is left? A job at the local record store? or the Goth Clothing shop?

betcha they don't show up at State Farm Insurance for work like that.

After having said that, dressing in this way is no different than me parading around in my sports bra and shorts covered in mud and skinned up knees and being happy as the day is long. To each his own, and yet, I do not show up for work like that either.

WHY would you think that being GOTH is not for older people?
People were being "GOTH" longer than 30-40 years!
I think it is sad that YOUNG people must think that they are going to DIE YOUNG!
and not get old and TRY to still enjoy life!
Why do you think self expression has an AGE LIMIT!????
I have seen men and women in their 60s still dressing GOTH...

SO go dig YOUR grave, and let us AGED YET YOUTHFUL PEOPLE ALONE!!!!!

sad?! INDEED, it is NOT!!!!!!
