I did the problem and came out to -6.. but my friend says it is incorrect.. so could you show me the work.. i can come up with the answer..

also my last problem was this one.. I cant seem to find the answer..

A trapezoid has bases of length x meters and (x + 6) meters. Its height is 4 meters. Find the lengths of the bases if the area is 64 square meters. The formula for the area of the trapezoid is: 1/2 (base+base)h

Thanks for ur help ill return the favor!!

6(y-2) + 5 = -13
6(y-2) = -13 - 5
6(y-2) = -18
(y-2) = -18/6
y-2 = -3
y = -3 + 2
y = -1

A = (1/2)*(base + base)*h
A = 64 = (1/2)*(x + (x+6))*4
A = 64 = 2*(x + (x + 6))
A = 64/2 = (x + (x + 6))
32 = 2x + 6
32 - 6 = 2x
26 = 2x
x = 13
x + 6 = 19

Hope this helps!

=)

As to your second question:
We simply substitute the information we have into the area formula.

Area = ((x + (x+6))*4)/2 =64
Simplifying:
2x+6 = 32
2x = 26
x = 13
Thus bases are lengths 13 and 19

ok for the first one, simplify it to 6y-12+5= -13, then simplifiy it again to 6y-7= -13, add 7 to both sides and you get 6y=-6, divide both sides by 6, and u get y=-1
for the second, first plug in the numbers to the equasion to get 1/2*(x+x+6)*4=64 simpilfy it to 1/2*(2x+6)*4=64, then, multiply the (__) by 1/2, and u get (x+3)*4= 64, you then multiply (___) by 4 to get 4x+12=64, subtract 12 from both sides, and u have 4x=50, divide both sides by 4 and so then x=12.5, so the bases are 12.5 and 18.5

First multiply the brackets through
6x - 12 +5=-13
rearrange
6x=-13-5+12
6x=-6
Here was your mistake, you now have to divide both sides by 6
x=-1

the work is simple:
the next step is : 6y-12+5=-13
then :6y-7=-13
move the -7 to the other side: 6y=-6
divide y=-6/6
y=-1

for the trp problem.. x=13
so top base is 13 and bottom is 19
