The three resorts, Portofino Bay (Italian Motif), Hard Rock Hotel (Rock Motif) and the Royal Pacific are all on property and walking dictance to the parks, that is how close they are!! They even have boats or pedi cabs that will take you from the resort to the park and vice versa. It is really convenient, but the hotels are quite expensive.

There is a DoubleTree Hotel across the street, also walking distance, that has better rates than the hotels on site. The DoubleTree is beautiful, has great accomodations, and is also very convenient because you can walk to Universal. I have stayed there many times before. They also provide transportation to Universal.

The good thing about the hotels on property at Universal is your room key serves as your "Expres Pass", which means that you don't have to wait in any of the lines!! (It costs an additional $15 if you stay off property.) There are great restaurants and City walk is a lot of fun!!

Universal Studios is a Resort, just like Walt Disney World. Unlike the Walt Disney World Resort, though, which has over 25 different Resort options on property, Universal Studios only has three. There's the Portofino Bay Hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel, and the Royal Pacific Resort.

I can't say much about them because I've never stayed at one and have yet to go to Universal Studios. I'm a die-hard Disney fanatic and always go to Walt Disney World. I love the Polynesian Resort at WDW.

I've heard on commercials that kids stay free and you get a free car rental if you stay at a Universal Studios Resort... they're that desperate to try to steal some of WDW's Guests.

Not "inside" of the parks, but then the hotels at WDW aren't "in" the parks either. There's the Hard Rock Hotel, the Portofino Bay Hotel and the Royal Pacific Resort. Universal does offer some special little perks to the guests who stay in "their" hotels, so it may be worth checking out. Here's a web site.

But instead of buses like Disney they have a boat that stops off at the resorts and takes you to the center of Citywalk right in front of NASCAR Cafe.
