A lot depends on the state you are in, but it might just be their way of saying that you do need to do some more driving before you get your lisence. I know a lot of parents just sign off and say their kids did their 40 hours with them even if they didn't. The driving school might just not want to be responsible. Maybe thats your states laws. I dont know. Just thought I'd try to help.

Yes, I believe that is what I had to do, or something close to it. If you are completely unsure than call your local DMV for clarification on what the law requires.
