Starting January 1, 2007 you need a pasport to enter the US from Canada and Mexico. As of right now, sometimes they check, sometimes they don't.

I went on at tour bus to the USA (New York specifically) and they have a border.. I don't know if this was just procedure for the bus but they did ask to look at our passports... I don't know for cars but I do know that they are preparing to make you have your passport in the future.

I don't think you have to right now, but it won't be long before it will be required. Go ahead and get one to be on the safe side. Besides, it'll come in handy later if you ever win a trip to Europe or somewhere.

perhaps we can help each other. i'm an american citizen that's trying to immigrate into canada, but i really don't understand how. i don't know if you need a passport to enter america (although you probably do need one) but i can look it up for you if you'd like, and maybe you can look up immigration for me. you can send me a message and leave you e-mail address and i'll give you mine.

I certainly hope so, when i go to Canada they do everything but a strip search. They need to realize that not all Americans are George Bush.

Nope. I think its like two forms of ID...one with a photo. Drivers license and birth certificate work best.

You shouldn't need one, I just came back from Canada with my family and all we needed was our birth certificates and picture ID.
