A portfolio is available, and you like the work they've done, the price is only the cost of supplies. You like your finished work and get to be a part of a new portfolio. Don't forget to tip your artist!

Just for the record, I am the artist, and I sport 5 of the 8 tattoos I've already done. I also have 4 volunteers who like my work enough to give me a chance. An artist gets good by practicing. Thanks for the input. http://ivystats.myphotoalbum.com/albums.php

I let my ex-girlfriend practice on me, albeit she was beginning an apprenticeship. Another friend got this honor as well. On the other end of the spectrum, I have work done by some of the more renowned artists in the US (really). This is just me, though. I have a sort of a lack-of-concern for my own skin, to put it one way. I am not bothered by imperfection, to put it another way. There are always cover-ups, but moreso....even shitty tattoos can tell stories, if you know what I mean.
It sounds like you have an artist who has some experience under their belt, and they are maybe just fine tuning and putting their hours in until they can get licensed.....go for it. Probably be a better tattoo than some licensed artists might give, anyway. good luck.

Nope, not even where the sun don't shine.

I don't mind paying more for the pro... the proof is in the longegity of the tattoo as much as in the steady hand of the artist. I know a new guy who spent half his time re-inking his previous tats where he didn't go deep enough, he didn't make much money til he learned the knack.

Yes - tipping is good Karma.

i've only got two tats both dragons, one on forearm and one on back of hand [ouch]. i would have to see some of the artist work , not just in a book. anybody can make up a portfolio.as for myself i am looking for a discount price on my next tat ,which by the way will be another dragon.

I would probably choose to get a tattoo of the infinite sign with the quote "And in that moment, I swear we were infinite" from a book I read called The Perks of Being A Wallflower. I'd probably put it somewhere around my rib or hip area.

Yes, as long as I was getting a relatively simple tattoo that would be virtually idiot-proof.

with JUST the question as it was asked, I would say I would have some serious doubts.

but with the details in play, I would say I would be more optimistic about it and go for it

YES, PLEASE TIP YOUR ARTISTS PEOPLE!!!

NO!!! i have met experienced tattoo artists that have little or no talent. considering my experience, i wouldn't try an amateur.
