It depends -- if you want to download stuff, play music and movies, etc, get the PSP.
If you are asking from a gaming standpoint, then definitely the Nintendo DS. Sure PSP has great graphics, but there are a lot more creative and innovative games for the DS. Many games played on the DS are more interactive due to the touch screen and microphone. And let's not forget wifi! You can play wifi compatible games online for free! Also, if your friends have a ds -- you can play multiplayer (sometimes up to ten people) with only one game cartridge. The DS will have connectivity with the new Nintendo Wii, and will also be able to be used as a controller for that console.
I have the DS, and I love it. With all the ipods and portable DVD players out there, etc, those features on the PSP are useless to me. I'm all about the games.

I have a NDS lite so my opinion may be a little biased! (My brother owns a PSP though.)
first look at what kind of games you want to play. The NDS has a lot more fun games to play that can give you hours and hours of fun. it's great for all ages too. The Wifi is really fun and got to love to touchpad!!!
The PSP has the more teen+ games. It also has browser capability...but honestly, that thing is so puny, I don't like surfing the web with the PSP. The PSP can also double as a sort of "ipod" but compared to a real ipod, it's clunky. Youc an also watch movies, but...seriously...it's a pretty small screen....
Then it's the cost factor. NDS games are cheaper! Also the NDS lite system (the nower one) is also cheaper than a PSP!
The NDS also can play both DS and GBA games, so if you owned a GBA before or have friends with that, you can play both kinds of games. :)
Then finally think of what you want to use the system for. Do you want to just use it to play games? Or Do you want to do more with it? Don't bother paying more for more functions you won't use!
So, just make a list with cost, games, # of friends with such-games, and "what I like" down one colomn, and then NDS and PSP on the top. Put a check on the side you like more, and the more checks you have for whichever, that's probably the system best for you.
I hope I helped. ^_^

Just buy a DS since a ps2 is already 10 times as better than a psp.

I have the ds because everything about the psp is more expensive and the battery life is crap. Apparently there really good to play but the ds has a touch screen that does come in to action quite alot and if fun but kinda childish foir the child inside of you.

Definitely the PSP. Its mulitple capabilities own some dinky and easily breakable touch screen. The video and music is just a great added bonus. I got tons of high-quality downloads from this site, I would check it out.
