Well, my sentimental favorite is the book 'A Little Princess' by Frances Hodgsen Burnett, who also wrote 'The Secret Garden.' I much prefer 'A Little Princess,' though. The movie version was terrible and nothing like the book, btw, so don't go by that. I love this book because I've read it every Christmas since I was a little girl, probably 8 years old, and it is still enjoyable. It's all about the magic within and being who you want to be. Not real magic, persay, but the magic you can create by telling story and playing pretend, even if it only lasts a little while.

My favorite non-children's book is 'The Teammates' by David Halberstam. It's an amazing look at the friendship of Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr, Dom DiMaggio, and Johnny Pesky, four fantastic members of the Boston Red Sox who played in the '40s and '50s. Halberstam is an amazing writer, and the story itself is amazing. You don't have to be a baseball fan to appreciate it, and the pure comeradery that the four displayed towards each other (especially Williams, who was not the friendliest guy in the world) is really a joy to read about.

A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway.

This book is a memoir of Ernest Hemingway's younger days spent mostly in Paris. He had colourful friends (Ezra Pound, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Gertrude Steinbeck!!) and was an interesting man himself, so the story itself couldn't be anything but riveting.

On top of everything else, he is one of the greatest writers I have ever read. His style is so smooth, yet intelligent at the same time. When it comes to being descriptive, I think he is the greatest author there ever was or ever will be.

I used to be able to read just to pass time, but Hemingway has refined my literary palate.
