My husband is paying alimony. We have custody of his minor child and he doesn't want to file for child support because he feels it will not be worth it. He doesn't think the $1500. a month he pays her will be considered as income to her.

You bet it is, and to the IRS too!
Your husband has custody, you bet he should sock the ex w/ support. How long will he need to pay her alimony?
Yikes, poor kid, poor you!

Alimony is an income to the person who receives it. It is not part of the child support and a judge does not consider it. Child support is a separate issue. If you are given or giving alimony it is to a partner who has helped you through your life. ( college, work, establishing a business etc) Child support is to keep a roof over the kids and food on the table and clothes on their backs. If you are receiving the alimony don't let a lawyer fool you, it is separate. If you are giving alimony quit bellyaching and pay both.

I'm confused, most state dont have alimony. Support is bast of the child's needs and the abiliyu of both parents to contribute.
