Is surgery the only option? How can you be sure you are not just fat?

Sorry, more details, I myself am not overweight and son't have gynecomastia, I was wondering if it was another pseudo condition, like fat women who say it is just my hormones. After having read about it and seen some pictures i do believe it exists. SOme of the men really did have breasts, though i think some others were being told by their doctors that it was gynecomastia rather than fat so they had to pay for surgery.

Hello!! :o) I'm 43 years old and because of my 'big chest' I haven't taken my shirt off in public since I was about 8 years old. I've always been overweight [by at least 40 lbs] so I believe that MY 'big chest' is just excess fat. It also FEELS 'just like fat'. If you are overweight - this might be true for you too. If you stand up and lean forward [with your shirt off] and feel your chest with your fingers - you should be able to get some sense of what they're made of. If they feel soft and there is no obvious fibrous mass - than it's probably just fat. If you DO feel something that feels like a clump of something - then it might be gynecomastia. Unfortunately - losing weight doesn't help with gynecomastia. So you MIGHT want to consider surgery. This is especially true if you are - otherwise - not overweight. I hope this helps. And believe you me - I can empathize with what you have gone through. Craig!! :o)

Your doctor should be able to evaluate your body type and tell you what your options are.

Here's a website that has lots of info on the subject.

You can get tubes of dihydrotestosterone to rub onto your chest that may shrink the breast tissue. I assume you can have an x-ray to see if it is fat or breast tissue or maybe a biopsy.
